چکیده

Elucidation of the various enzymatic reactions of the KrebsHenseleit ornithine-urea cycle (1) stems from several laboratories (l-13), whose primary aims were the isolation, purification, and study of the requirements and mechanism of action of the several enzymes. The present study was undertaken to provide a systematic scheme of analysis for the quantitative determination of the levels of these enzymes in the livers of ureotelic animals. Primarily, the procedures were established to be used in connection with a study of levels of these enzymes in cell-free extracts prepared from the livers of metamorphosing tadpoles (18). The procedures have lent themselves more broadly to comparative studies on the occurrence and levels of these enzymes in mam-

Clinical and Biochemical Characterizations of Pediatric Patients with Urea Cycle Disorders in Upper Egypt: A Case- Control Study

Background: The diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism is generally challenging. We aimed to explore various types of urea cycle disorders (UCDs), and their clinical presentations and biochemical findings among Egyptian pediatric patients. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was conducted on 86 participants categorized into ...

Effects of exercise on nitrogen excretion, carbamoyl phosphate synthetase III activity and related urea cycle enzymes in muscle and liver tissues of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).

The purpose of this study was to determine if carbamoyl phosphate synthetase III (CPSase III) and related urea cycle enzyme activities in skeletal muscle tissue of juvenile rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) increase during short- or long-term exercise, in parallel with changes in whole-body urea excretion rates. Urea excretion was elevated by 65% in fish that swam at high-speed (50 cm/s) vs. ...

Comparative biochemistry of urea synthesis. II. Levels of urea cycle enzymes in metamorphosing Rana catesbeiana tadpoles.

Among the various physiological-biochemical changes associated with the invasion of land from an aquatic environment is that dealing with the nature of the nitrogen excretion product of protein and amino acid catabolism. In general terms (l-4), the excretion of ammonia (ammonotelism), urea (ureotelism), or uric acid (uricotelism) is related to the availability of water to an organism. Ammonia c...

Liver and Kidney Functional Indices of Pregnant Rats Following the Administration of the Crude Alkaloids from Senna alata (Linn. Roxb) Leaves

ABSTRACT Background: Alkaloids from Senna alata leaves implicated as the active constituents of abortifacient are yet to be investigated for their effects on the normal functioning of the maternal liver and kidney. Therefore, the effects of crude alkaloids on some biochemical indices of kidney and liver damage were investigated in pregnant rats. Methods: Pregnant rats were randomized into...
